Mothers Day is always a special day of the year. It’s the day that we get to show the Mums we love just how much they mean to us. I must confess I love Mothers Day and my two lovely kids spoil me every year.
If you are on the Gold Coast for Mothers Day I can guarantee that you will be able to find something fun to do. We try to do something different every year. So I have put together this list to help you decide what to do with your Mum on Mothers Day.
STAY THE WEEKEND
I’ve put this suggestion first as it would be my idea of a perfect way to spend my Mothers Day weekend. The Gold Coast has so many accommodation options that you would have no trouble at all finding the perfect place for Mum to spend an indulgent weekend away.
Although it has been a little while since we have actually stayed in accommodation here on the Coast I can recommend Circle on Cavill as a lovely spot. Right in the heart of Surfers you are within walking distance of restaurants, pubs and clubs. Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort is another spot that would be perfect. You wouldn’t even have to leave as there are restaurants, bars, a resort pool and a spa. Or you could check out one of the Gold Coasts newer resorts – Rhapsody Resort. It is 41 floors of pure luxury with views of the Coast or the Hinterland to match.
GO FOR A BUSHWALK
If your Mum is the fit and active type, then maybe you could spend the day going for a bush walk. With the National Parks of the Gold Coast Hinterland just a 40 to 50 minute drive away you can spend the day exploring our beautiful rain forests. There are plenty of spots to choose from too including Binna Burra, Springbrook National Park where you will find the beautiful Purling Brook Falls Walking Circuit or the stunning Natural Bridge.
WHAT ABOUT AN EXPERIENCE?
Why not get an experience for Mum from ClassBento? ClassBento, is a local experiences marketplace helping Aussies try new activities. Prices are very reasonable with some classes starting from as little as $25.00. It would be a great way to spend some time with Mum and have something to show at the end!
HORSE RIDING
Miss Oz and I have been Beach Horse Riding, but a ride somewhere in the Gold Coast Hinterland would be a perfect way to spend Mothers Day. There are several places where you can go horse riding. We suggest you try Numinbah Valley Adventure Trails, Thunderbird Park or Bonogin Valley Horse Retreat.
VISIT THE MARKETS
I love visiting local markets. Whether you are after some fresh local produce, something arty or crafty or you simply want to get something to eat, then one of the many markets held on the Coast might be for you. Night markets are held every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening from 4pm until 9pm along the Surfers Paradise beach front. The Village Markets are held every second Sunday at Burleigh Heads and are open from 8.00am or you can visit the large and very popular Carrara Markets.
MOUNT TAMBOURINE
One of my favourite spots on the Coast is Mount Tamborine. It’s a lovely spot to spend a day out. There are pretty shops to browse in, the very quirky Cuckoo Clock shop, a couple of wineries and plenty of coffee shops as well. In fact my favourite cellar door – Castle Glen – is open on the Mountain again and sell an awesome range of spirits and liqueurs. The drive up to Mount Tamborine takes in some pretty spectacular scenery too. There are also a couple of nice spots for a walk including Curtis Falls and the Botanic Gardens.
GO OUT FOR BREAKFAST
Who doesn’t love heading out for an indulgent breakfast? The Gold Coast has so many awesome spots to choose from. One of my personal favourites is Cafe Nineteen at Sanctuary Cove. They serve delicious food and excellent coffee. Broadbeach and Kingscliff are also brekkie hotspots. But those of us in the know head to Burleigh. This popular spot on the southern end of the Coast has an impressive array of cafes where you can get everything from bacon and eggs to a green smoothie. Check out Kathy from 50 Shades of Age‘s recommendations. As a local she’s definitely ‘in the know’!
LETS DO LUNCH
Who doesn’t love a spot of lunch on Mothers Day? Of course you will want to take Mum somewhere that has delicious food and a great view. For my money you really can’t go past Harrigan’s Drift Inn at Jacob’s Well on the northern end of the Coast. It’s always a popular spot for lunch on any Sunday and most weekends they have entertainment as well. My other top pick would be Eagle Heights Resort, just below Mount Tamborine. With amazing views that extend out towards the Coast and regular entertainment, Mum will love relaxing in their expansive beer garden. It really is the perfect spot on the Gold Coast for Mothers Day!
HIGH TEA
Ah that lovely English tradition of having something quite substantial to eat mid-afternoon. Arriving in Australia in the mid 1800’s the tradition continues here today. High Tea usually consists of delicately made sandwiches and indulgent sweets. Two venues that do High Tea extremely well are the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort and Spa and also the Palazzo Versace Hotel located on The Spit.
VISIT A LOCAL WINERY
If you have been reading this blog for awhile then you will know that I don’t mind a wine every now and again. We are lucky that there are a couple of great wineries within easy driving distance of the Gold Coast. Located just outside of Canungra is the Albert River Winery. The Cellar Door is located in the historic Auchenflower House Billiard Room. A beautiful Queenslander that was formerly home to some of the states premiers. Another favourite spot is O’Reillys Vineyard. Also just a short drive from Canungra, you can dine in the restaurant, visit the cellar door or order a picnic hamper to enjoy by the creek.
Located half way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast is Sirromet Winery and I can highly recommend the Winery Tour and Tasting.
GO FOR A BBQ OR PICNIC
There are so many beautiful spots on the Gold Coast where you can enjoy a barbeque or a picnic. Whether you like the beach or the bush there is sure to be a spot to please your Mum. We love Paradise Point. Located on the Broadwater on the northern end of the Coast, there are trees, water, barbeque areas and playgrounds for the kids. In the Hinterland we love Hinze Dam, with it’s wide open spaces, green grass and walking tracks it’s a great day out. On the southern end of the Coast. Once again you can’t go passed Burleigh Heads and surrounds. It’s a beautiful spot with plenty of space for everyone.
So with that list there should be no reason why you can’t have a great day out on the Gold Coast for Mothers Day!
