Hello and welcome to All Around Oz – camping, caravanning, travelling and ‘Drone’ flying adventures in Australia!
I’m Melissa and my husband is Brenden and we are passionate about sharing our love of travel and Australia. In fact we have been travelling together for over 20 years.
Starting life as ‘Camper Trailer Travels’ in 2011 and evolving into All Around Oz in 2014, this website is our way of inspiring everyone to see more of Australia and experience all the magic it has to offer.
Our base is the beautiful Gold Coast but we are busy making plans to travel full time starting in 2018. In the meantime, we love nothing better than heading out into the Hinterland for a day trip or packing up and heading outback for a couple of weeks.
Our current set-up is a 2011 Customline Full Off-Road Camper Trailer towed behind a 2013 Mazda BT-50. So far our adventures have taken us west into outback Queensland and New South Wales, south into the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales and north into Tropical Queensland.
We know that sometimes ‘things happen’ when you are travelling so we aim to offer as much advice as possible to help you through those rough patches.
I write the words and take most of the photos and generally do all the research and trip planning. This means I’m always on the lookout for new destinations. Those who know me well know that I don’t mind a chat or a wine and often combine the two together. I have always loved to write and I am passionate about being able to share our Aussie travel adventure stories.
My favourite place to date would have to be Ellis Beach just north of Cairns; it’s my idea of paradise. At the top of my must-visit list would be Craig’s Hut in the Victorian High Country.
Is the self-confessed ‘geek’ of the AAO team. In his spare time he indulges his passion for technology by flying Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA’S) or drones as they are more commonly known. He currently flies a DJI F550 with a Go-Pro Hero 3+ camera attached and a DJI Phantom 3 Standard. Brenden has accumulated more than 300 hours of flying experience. He holds a CASA Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) and will shortly obtain his Operators Certificate (ReOC) which will enable him to fly a drone for commercial purposes and also to instruct others to fly. You can read more on our RPA Operations HERE.
His favourite place that we have been so far is Longreach in outback Queensland and in particular the QANTAS Founders Museum. At the top of his must-visit list is Uluru.
I hope you enjoy travelling with us.
