  1. hi Annette.
we are planning a trip from Melbourne to north Queensland and back with 4 weeks travel time.
would the Cape be a stretch? we have only done small 2 week trips to while getting used to our set up and looking to get more experianced befor we do th lap in a couple of years.
we dont want to rush the trip, missing segnificant sites so we would love your feedback with your thoughts. e.g should we aim lower on the coast to allow a relaxed trip?
thanks and look forward to your reply.

    • Hi Dean
Yes, I’d recommend to aim lower on the coast to have a good relaxing holiday for your 4 weeks. 4 weeks there and back from Melbourne will be too rushed I think.
The Cape will still be there when you do your lap in a few years. 🙂
You can read about our trip and itinerary here. If/when we do it again we’d allow for more time there and whilst we were there too. Coming back we’d just do an overnighter here and there to speed up the trip back https://allaroundoz.com.au/cape-york-trip/
      Happy travels

  2. Hi – loking at the weight calculator and it mentions – “Upgrade to unlock towing data and information from our vehicle database!”, but it doesn’t show a cost to upgrade. How much is the upgrade?

  3. Hi,
You talked about “cutting down a gas bottle for your wok”
How did you achieve that and what are the pitfalls?
I love my 3 woks and would love to be able to cook with them on my ‘lap’.
    Any advice would help.
    Thanks

  4. Hi Annette, thanks for your latest post on expense report form June to December 2023.
could I ask please about the days shown staying in caravan parks, free camping etc.
    Free Camps – 16 nights
    Off-grid – 38 nights
    Caravan Parks – 101 nights/19 parks
    Pub stays – 4
    Bush/Station Stays – 97 nights
They add up to 256 nights, which is over 8 months? Just checking the period for which this relates.
    Thanks very much

  9. Hi, i am about to confirm the options for my new Caravan in the next week. For value for money they recommend the system you have written about in the Off Grid Power article. My question is, is that enough? Is it working for you? How many days can you last away from mains power? With 2-3 panels and a 35Amp charging rate do you have trouble replacing what you use in your 200Ah batteries?
We plan to do a big lap, family of 5, compressor fridge, and think i’d need a bigger system.
Would appreciate your thoughts or any recommendations.

    Thanks,
    Brett

    • Hi Brett
Whave free camped for 6 days in mainly overcast weather and not run out of power. In fact we only moved because we ran out of water. Within 12 months of having our van we had replaced the AGM batteries with lithium and we have never had an issue getting power back into them. The only time we have ever had a problem was when we were camped in a spot that had a lot of tall trees around. We also have a 200w solar blanket that we can chase the sun with if need be. We have been very happy with our BMPRO setup.

  10. Hi Annette,
We are also awaiting our caravan before we start our trip. Thank you for your information. We will be on our way when the van arrives. Can’t wait. I have had now experience at setting up websites so this will be a new adventure for me.

  11. Do you have more information on your ‘Destinations’ page? Your NT page introduction has the WA info and there are no links to click on? Have you provided any info on particular places you have visited?

    • Stay tuned Anne as we travel the country. There will be a few posts coming soon on the NT and WA.

  12. Hi
I just come across you guys through reading comments on post on fb group planning lap of Oz.

Your knowledge and help tools are just what hubby/I need to take same plunge.
Especially as you had retail behind you when you took off, as I do. And my hubby is a,truck driver.
We want sell our home, bank money( hoping to buy small place in small town somewhere) as base camp. We have 18’6 offroad van we use most weekends to get away. Hubby wants to retire next year while he still has his health, his job is very hard on his body, truck buildups.
