Travelling surely has to be one of the greatest pleasures in life. I know it certainly is for us. But what if I told you that regular travel is a great way to keep your mind and body healthy? I’m talking about slow leisurely travel not 5000 kilometres in ten days. But the kind where you have time to immerse yourself in the local area or way of life. Here are my top five reasons why I think you should regularly Travel to Stay Healthy.

KEEPS YOU ACTIVE
Travelling is a fantastic way to keep yourself active or to inspire you to get active. Think long walks along the beach, bush walks, hiking or push bike riding. Even just walking around exploring a new area or visiting a museum or art gallery can count towards your daily step goal.
PREVENT SOCIAL ISOLATION
Travel is a great way to prevent social isolation. Social isolation is just one of many risk factors for ageing diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Think of all the new people you can meet along the way. Many
Even organised tours are a great way to meet and make new friends who share similar interests. Larger parks often have organised activities during peak times. We loved our stay at the Evening Star at Charleville. Every evening they lit a huge camp fire and you could bring your camp oven down and cook your evening meal whilst sitting around the camp fire chatting and having a drink. We also loved the friendly atmosphere at Coolac Cabins and Camping in NSW.

SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO
Travelling gives you something to look forward to. Unless you are lucky enough to be able to travel full time knowing that you have a trip coming up soon is exciting. Plus, planning and researching trips is great for stimulating your brain.
A GREAT WAY TO KEEP LEARNING
Travelling is the best way to keep learning. Visiting galleries, museums, historical sites are all fantastic ways to continue to learn no matter how old we are. Australia has a rich history and nearly every place you visit has a story to tell. It doesn’t matter where your interests lay. You can learn more about things that interest you or acquire some new knowledge on a subject that you previously knew nothing about. We have learnt about mining in Lightning Ridge and Cobar, dinosaurs in Richmond and astronomy in Charleville to name just a few.

INCORPORATE A HOBBY
Travelling is a great way to start or incorporate a hobby. Think photography, painting, blogging or maybe even some ‘drone’ flying! I would never have started this blog if we hadn’t decided to buy a camper trailer and travel!
Don’t forget to look after other aspects of your health when travelling though. If you are travelling long distances or you are on an extended trip make sure you have a rest day every now and again where you just relax and enjoy the moment.
Don’t forget to eat well and drink plenty of fresh water if you are out and about and make sure you stay Sun Safe as well.
How do you travel to stay healthy?

I used to travel a lot before kids but have recently made a conscious effort to get out and experience/explore and discover as much as we can as a family.
The feeling I get from travelling is more than freedom, it is life! #MummyMondays
We have always travelled with out kids and we have had so many great trips. Fantastic memories for us all.
I’ve been unable to travel for a sadly long time (hopefully coming to an end!) and I miss how it refreshes you so much.
Hope you are able to travel again soon. If we can’t get away for a few days we at least try and do a day trip somewhere. I always find a drive in the country always does the trick.
As I sit at my hotel desk in Singapore, let’s just say … I concur! It’s all part of ageing positively.
Thanks for linking with the Lovin’ Life Linky!
I hadn’t given much thought to my post being about ageing positively but now that you mention it…..:)
Yep, preaching to the converted here too. I definitely need something to look forward to, and the next trip is never too far away. I’ll go almost anywhere and I love the whole research and planning phase too – I’m weird like that!
I don’t mind the planning either…I’m always thinking about where we could go or seeing great places on Facebook or other blogs and adding them to my very long list of places I want to visit!
Thank you for such a wonderful article 🙂
It certainly does the job of rekindling those nomadic tendencies I seem to have.
Thanks Tanya!
You are preaching to the converted here! The benefits of travel, particularly caravanning are immense. It is a very healthy past-time apart from the all the nibblies and wines at happy hour! That’s why you have to take long walks to burn off the extra calories.
I’m pleased to hear that Kathy!
