Our Experience With EcoFlow’s 400w Solar Panel
We eagerly tested the 400w solar panel to see how it differed from the 200w panel we had previously tested from another company. This is because we discovered that a 200w solar panel struggled to pump more power into our batteries when off-grid in winter.
We’ve conducted extensive testing for Ecoflow’s solar blanket in good and bad weather, and the solar blanket has changed how we camp.
This is because we can stay off the grid longer and use our appliances, such as our induction hot plate inside the van, our air fryer and Thermomix.
We have 4 x 210W on the roof of our
Now, with the Ecoflow 400W solar blanket, our batteries are topped up and full by the end of each day. We do not need to check how much power is left in the batteries constantly. We can confidently stay off-grid, even in bad weather.
In fact, when camping off-grid in Kenilworth, in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, it rained every day for a week. Rain doesn’t faze the solar blanket, as it’s waterproof, a complete game changer for caravanners and campers.
What Is A 400w Ecoflow Solar Panel?
At first glance, the EcoFlow 400w solar panel looks very sleek. It’s made of flexible, strong and durable material. It’s also portable -you can fold and carry it with the shoulder strap. The IP68 waterproofing is convenient for outdoor enthusiasts- take it worry-free in various terrains and weather.
To set up the panel, you’ll need to unfold the four sections and use the carrying case (which doubles as a kickstand) to prop it up. While this design has merits, we found it floppy and difficult to set completely straight. The wind may also cause problems because of the flexible panels.
However, we sometimes utilised the van’s side, which helped keep the panel in place. Plus, we lay the panel flat on the ground when the sun is directly overhead for a few hours.
One of the key selling points of this 400w folding solar panel is its compatibility with EcoFlow Portable Power Stations. The panels connect seamlessly to all EcoFlow power stations, ensuring the best connectivity.
MPTT Technology
Another key selling point of these panels is the MPPT (Maximum PowerPoint Tracking) technology.
MPPT maximises the efficiency of solar power systems by continuously adjusting the operating point of the solar panel based on the light intensity, temperature and shade.
This ensures that the maximum possible power is generated, and the EcoFlow panel, 400W, has an incredibly high conversion rate of 22.6%.
A universal MC4 adapter is included, which lets you connect to most third-party generators. However, you won’t get the MPPT benefit with 3rd-party power stations unless the 3rd-party’s generator or controller also has MPPT.
The following items come with your purchase:
- 400W Solar Panel
- Kickstand Case
- 4 Snap hooks/Carabiners
- Solar to XT60 Charging Cable
- User Manual
At first glance, we love the panel for the following:
- Impressive solar input capacity (400w)
- Very efficient: Up to 23% conversion rate, thanks to the MPPT technology
- IP68 waterproof rating: More than enough for a solar panel.
- Durable, multi-layered materials: The EVA polymer degrades by just 1% in 30 years, so the panel will outlast the solar cells.
- Compatibility with EcoFlow power stations: We love the EcoFlow power stations, so the seamless compatibility is a plus.
However, we feel the following could be improved:
- Flimsy stand: It can be
- The Price Tag: Although it’s a premium product, the investment may be steep for some users
- Portability: Weighing 16-20kg
I emailed my contact at EcoFlow about the stand. My contact responded, “Brackets supporting 400W solar panels are usually bulky, heavy, and not travel-friendly. Please be assured we’re diligently working to resolve this.”
EcoFlow does have a solar tracker designed to work with their solar panels. It automatically tracks the sun, so you don’t have to. However, it would be cost-prohibitive for most caravanners and campers.
Overall, the EcoFlow Panel, 400W, is one of the best camping solar panels on the market in terms of power generation and efficiency. Now, let’s take a detailed look at this panel’s key characteristics and specs.

The 400w solar panel is ideal for you, providing ample power to top up your batteries or your portable power station.
Remote Workers, Digital Nomad And Photographers
If you are constantly on the move or working remotely like me, you’ll rely heavily on electronic devices like laptops, cameras, and smartphones.
You need a power source that’s as mobile and flexible as you travel around Australia. The 400w solar panel is your ideal companion. It offers enough power to charge your devices, support your work, and maintain your connected lifestyle, no matter where you are set up.
What benefits does Ecoflow 400w Solar Panel Provide?
Here’s a list of benefits that the 400w Ecoflow solar panel provides for caravanners and campers:
Foldable and Portable
When unfolded, the Ecoflow 400w solar panel dimensions are 172.2 x 113.2 x 3.5cm (67.8 x 44.6 x 1.38 inches). However, when folded, it reduces to one-quarter of its initial size. The dual-use kickstand converts into a shoulder strap for carrying. The 20kg weight is manageable, meaning a single person can pack and move it.
Handy Kickstand
The case protects the panels during transportation, and when you’re setting it up, it doubles as a stand. The stand can be angled to capture the right amount of sun. However, we found the stand a little flimsy and difficult to set up.
Durable and Waterproof
The IP68 waterproof protection they’ve added guarantees protection against debris, dust and water. IP68 stands for Ingress Protection or International Protection marking, which classifies how effective a waterproof coating is. After ‘IP’, the two numbers protect against dust and water, respectively.
- The 6 is the level of protection against solids. A rating of ‘6’ means the device is dust-tight and gives the highest protection against dust particles. ‘6’ is the highest dust-protection rating available.
- The ‘8’ refers to the protection against liquids. An ‘8’ rating means the solar panel will survive submersion in continuous water. However, the depth of water and the duration can vary. ‘8’ isn’t the highest waterproof rating – ‘9’ is. A rating of ‘9’ means protection against high-temperature and high-pressure water jets.
Multilayered Design
According to the website, the panel is made of multiple layers of ‘robust materials’. These layers are of pliable ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) polymer and durable fibreglass. Each silicon cell is covered with a thin ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) film for waterproofing.
Integrated With EcoFlow Power Stations
The excellent integration with all EcoFlow power stations is a significant advantage. When you connect with EcoFlow power stations, you benefit from MPPT technology and maximize your power saving.
Universal Capabilities
An MC4 adapter comes with the box. This means you can connect with other brands’ power stations as well. If your current power station doesn’t support MC4, you can look into getting an adapter or cable that converts the MC4 connector into the one supported by your station.
Reliable Energy
When coupled with an EcoFlow power station, this 400W 12V solar panel provides a consistent and dependable energy source. The 400W rating represents a notably high capacity for a solar panel, which means it can generate substantial power.
The wattage measures the maximum output the panel can achieve under optimal conditions, such as bright and sunny days. This panel can generate 400 watts per hour during sunlight. However, real-world production may vary based on variables like shading, panel orientation, temperature variations, and other environmental factors.
Design Aesthetics
The panel makes a great first impression with its sleek design. EcoFlow doesn’t skimp on the look and feel of its products. The fabric used to cover the back of the panel and the carrying bag both feel durable and high-quality.

Final Thoughts
A helpful tip: When buying solar panels, look for ones with adjustable legs or stand. This will allow you to easily adjust the angle and experiment with what works best. Some panels also have advanced ‘solar-tracking’, which means they dynamically adjust their position throughout the day to face the sun.
Lastly, consider shade from trees and buildings and how that changes throughout the day. Also, consider local weather patterns and their effect on sunlight.
