If like us, you are living in your caravan full time, you will know the daily challenge of keeping your caravan clutter free and tidy. Given that it is such a small space, it doesn’t take long for it to look cluttered and messy if you have lots of ‘stuff’ sitting around.

Having a minimalist approach to what you have in your caravan is a great starting place to make your caravan clutter free. If you only have what you need and use on a regular basis, you will have more chance of keeping clutter to a minimum.

Having a spot for everything and taking advantage of the spaces you have will have your van organised and clutter-free in no time. Here are a few ideas that have helped us and might help you when it comes to keeping your caravan clutter-free.

1. MAKE YOUR BED

You might think this is a strange tip to have in a post about clutter. But honestly, making your bed every day works. Having a neatly made bed just makes your whole space look tidy. Plus if you have a couple of cushions that spend the night on the dinette, putting them back on the bed clears that space immediately.

2. USE THE INSIDE OF CUPBOARDS

I know many vans have narrow cupboards in them that have the radio or other electrics in them. These cupboards are often the perfect spot for your T.V and air con remotes. If attaching anything with screws, make sure they are only short or use Velcro. You’ll be amazed at what it will hold.

The inside of a cupboard is also a great spot to attach some small hooks to hold keys. As our pantry is just inside our door, we have our key hooks in there. This makes them really easy to grab when we are outside.

We have also added a couple of hooks just around the corner of the door. These are great for hanging the car and van keys on, so we always know where they are.

3. A BASKET FOR ‘STUFF’

It’s inevitable that you will end up with a collection of ‘stuff’ that needs a home. Often you might find it getting dumped on the kitchen bench or the dinette table. My solution is a small ‘Sistema’ brand basket. It’s a great spot to keep daily medication, hand sanitiser, sunscreen etc. As it is only small, it doesn’t take up a lot of space and can be sat in the sink when travelling.

As we also work on the road, I have a small ‘office’ basket. This is where I keep a couple of pens, sticky notes, receipts etc. When we are stationary, this basic fits perfectly on the edge of the dinette seat next to the cupboard under the table

4. STORAGE POCKETS

One of the handiest items you can have in your van, to help keep the clutter at bay, is a storage pocket. Our van came with one but they are readily available to buy from caravan dealers or places like eBay. They come in different sizes which gives you more options for where you can put them. We use ours to store our placemats, the odd magazine or two and it’s also a great spot to hang a calendar.
