I recently asked the lovely people who follow us on Facebook what was one thing they never went camping without. I received some great answers so I thought I would put this list together for everyone. So here are 10 Things to Never go Camping Without!
1. TOILET PAPER
This was the overwhelming number one answer. And yes it is something that I have in both our car and the camper trailer. I can’t count the number of times that we have stopped somewhere and there has been no toilet paper. This often happens in National Parks and also at road side rest areas. It also comes in handy for those urgent calls of nature when you are in the middle of now where. Just make sure you dispose of it correctly by following these simple tips.
2. HUBBY/WIFE
Whilst camping or travelling solo can be lots of fun, it is really nice to have some company as well. Whether that is your hubby or your wife or another special person in your life it doesn’t matter. As long as you both enjoy travelling together, you will have a great time. Brenden and I have been travelling together for over 20 years and we still love it! Besides, I can’t set the camp trailer up on my own!
3. BEER/WINE
We all know that there is nothing better than sitting around a camp fire with a cold beer or a nice glass of wine. It is just part of going camping. Happy Hour is kind of a tradition when camping and of course it is an awesome way to meet some fellow travellers. If you are not a drinker that’s okay too. Bring your favourite soft drink or fruit juice or even a hot cuppa!
4. CAMERA
Number four on my list is my camera. I may not be an expert at it but I really do love taking photos. I’m still trying to learn all the different settings on our camera so I will often just go for a walk and take pictures as I go. Sometimes the results are awesome, other times they are average. But I rarely leave home without it.
5. MEDICATION AND FIRST AID KIT
If you are travelling anywhere and need any sort of regular medication then this should be one of the first things you pack. The only regular medication I require are tablets for my high blood pressure. (Apparently it’s hereditary) But I generally take some paracetamol and also anti-histamine tablets. A good first aid kit is essential and ours never comes out of the car. That way it is with us all the time.
6. CHOCOLATE/MARSHMALLOWS/COFFEE
What’s your favourite treat when camping? Mine would have to be a nice cup of coffee so I usually take a coffee plunger and ground coffee from Gloria Jeans. The kids love toasting marshmallows when they come camping with us or making S’mores so chocolate is often included.
7. HOBBY SUPPLIES
I have a friend who produces some beautiful art work. She never goes camping without her art supplies. There are so many stunningly beautiful places in Australia that are perfect for sketching or painting. Or maybe you enjoy knitting, embroidery or crochet. These are all things that are easy to take with you when you are travelling. I love writing so if I don’t take my lap top with me I at least make sure I have a notepad just in case inspiration strikes. I also enjoy reading so I always take a book as well.

8. HOT WATER BOTTLE
After spending a couple of chilly nights when we were in Coonabarabran recently, I think I will be investing in a hot water bottle before I do to much more cold weather camping. They are small and easy to pack and really do a great job of warming up the bed. They are also inexpensive to buy.
9. A POWER SOURCE
If you are going to be doing some free camping then you will most probably want to have some kind of a power source. There are so many different types of power sources available these days that you don’t really need to miss out on being able to have lights or charge your phone if need be. We have a dual battery system in both the BT50 and the camper trailer plus our batteries can be topped up with a solar panel. We can run LED lights, a radio and our Engel fridge for several days without a problem.
10. SOMETHING TO COOK ON
We all have to eat regardless of where we are. Going camping, I think, gives us the option of cooking very simply if we want. With a small BBQ plate you can cook over an open fire. Potatoes can be roasted in the coals. If you want you can even heat up a tin of baked beans in the fire (make sure you open it first) A small portable stove or gas burner can come in handy for cooking or reheating food. We love our Weber Baby Q and take it with us everywhere we go. You can cook everything on it from steaks to muffins.
Have I missed something? What do you always take camping with you?

I always take me knitting when I camp but never seem to get around to doing it. Maybe when the kids are older I can have a bit more time relaxing and doing craft!
It’s been years since I did any knitting…maybe next time I go camping I’ll give it a go.
I used to love knitting but have recently changed to crocheting, I crochet when hubby is driving.😀
The sad thing is I shouldn’t cause I have arthritis 🤣
I can knit and crochet but have forgotten how to read a pattern.
