2018 Our Year in Review

Wow…where has 2018 gone? It certainly has slipped by very quickly. We have had another fantastic year and we can’t wait for 2019 and all it has in store for us. But first, let’s take a look at what we got up to in 2018 Our Year in Review!

HOUSE SITTING AND ROAD TRIPPING

Our first big trip of the year, we headed home to Cowra where we house sat for a week. It gave us the opportunity to catch up with our family and friends. We also managed to fit in a couple of day trips around the area. We visited Condobolin which is a great little town on the edge of the NSW Outback with one of the best free camps I have ever seen. It has been put on our ‘must go back to’ list.

Another day was spent in Young – the Cherry Capital of Australia. It’s a pretty town with plenty to see and do. We had a great pub lunch at the Aussie Hotel, which we highly recommend.

Whilst on this trip, we were lucky enough to road test a Coromal Element caravan. We absolutely loved it and it made us even more keen for the arrival of ours. Travelling back to the Gold Coast, we took the inland route which took us from Bathurst to Hill End, then onto Mudgee where I visited a few of the local wineries.

Heading north we travelled though several small towns including Quirindi, Barraba and Bingara before staying at the Deepwater Pub in northern NSW. We were able to stay in some great free/low cost camps along the way. Our last two nights were spent relaxing by the river at Texas on the NSW/Queensland border. A truly awesome donation camp and a must stay spot if you are up that way.

MELBOURNE AND ANOTHER BIRTHDAY

In May we headed to Melbourne for a few days so as we could visit the NextGen Caravans factory. Unfortunately, we were a bit to early to see our van on the production line. It was amazing to see how these vans are made from start to finish and the work that goes into each one. We were so impressed with what we saw and learnt on the day.

Also in May I got to tick an item off my ‘Bucket List’ when I went beach horse riding with my daughter at Noosa North Shore for my birthday. It was a fantastic experience and something I would highly recommend.

The middle of the year was fairly quiet for us. We spent 3 days on the Green RV stand at the Brisbane Caravan Show meeting and chatting to lots of people about our NextGen Caravan and our travels so far.

OUR CARAVAN DELIVERY

August, our dream became a reality when we took delivery of our beautiful new NextGen Greyline caravan. To say that it exceeded our expectations would be something of an understatement! Of course we had to check it out straight away so we spent a couple of nights at one of our favourite camping spots – Sharp Park at Canungra, followed by a long weekend at Jacobs Well Caravan Park.

Not long after that we took part in our first NextGen Caravans Owners Group at Rivershore Resort on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. It was great to meet up with other owners, who share our passion for this brand.

We also loved having the opportunity to check out Rivershore Resort. It is a lovely park, in a gorgeous spot and just perfect for families.

We followed our stay at Rivershore with a couple of days exploring the lovely Sunshine Coast Hinterland and the small town of Maleny.

TRAVEL ON HOLD

After that, our travels were temporarily put on hold. Brenden made the decision earlier in the year to go ahead and have a full knee replacement. But in order to do that he needed to have some corrective surgery first. This laid him up on crutches for 6 weeks and then a further 6 weeks of getting some strength back in his leg. The knee replacement will be done in March, 2019 and hopefully this will give him some much needed mobility!

But before that can happen, we head to Adelaide to pick up a Winnebago Motor Home as we are to take part in the Dometic Winnebago Follow the Sun Relay with thanks to Let’s Go Caravan and Camping. We are so grateful to have this opportunity and we can’t wait to share our adventures in 2019 with you all.
