I’m sure you will all agree that life can get really busy, making it hard to find the time for a break away. Everybody deserves a little time away together and we were certainly well overdue for a break. We celebrated our 15th Wedding Anniversary recently and thought it might be nice to celebrate with a little bit of Glamping! Some internet research led me to Turkeys Nest Rainforest Accommodation at Mt Glorious and I knew straight away that I had found the perfect spot for us.
Turkeys Nest Rainforest Accommodation is set in the beautiful lush rainforest of Mt Glorious. Mt Glorious is located on the edge of the Maiala National Park in the D’Aguilar Range. Mt Glorious is about a 45 minute drive from Brisbane.
ACCOMMODATION CHOICES
There are three styles of accommodation available at Turkey’s Nest.
- White Gum Cottage – a 2 bedroom fully self contained cottage
- The Macadamia Suite – fully self-contained but located within the main house; and
- Rose Gum Cottage – which is the one I chose.
ROSE GUM COTTAGE
From the minute you walk in the front door, Rose Gum Cottage is a delight. Built in 2011, this charming timber cottage, nestles beautifully into its rainforest surrounds. Much of the cottage has been constructed using recycled materials or timber milled on site. The stair case to the loft bedroom is a real feature. With a solid timber tree trunk as its main stay and branches woven into the balustrade it is a gorgeous centre piece.
A well equipped kitchen has all you will need for a couple of nights stay including a microwave, coffee machine and a small bake and grill oven. I loved the dining room with its old dormer-style windows. Fully restored with clear glass added, the room looks out over the rainforest. A small deck just off the dining room offers two comfy armchairs – a perfect spot for a late afternoon drink.
Also on the ground floor is a massive bathroom with a large claw foot bath tub. A very generous sized shower with excellent water pressure completes the bathroom.
Upstairs is the loft-style bedroom with a queen size bed. An electric blanket is provided but we found we didn’t need it as the warmth from the fire floated upstairs. There is also a day bed which could sleep a small child if need be. A small desk next to one window, which boasts a view of the rainforest, completes the furnishings.
COSY FIREPLACE
On arrival at Rose Gum Cottage you will find complimentary port and chocolate fudge which was divine! The lounge room with it’s comfy sofa and lovely wood fire was the perfect spot to enjoy a drink. We took full advantage of the fire as it was wet and chilly during our stay and it easily warmed the whole cottage.
One thing Rose Gum Cottage doesn’t have is a Television or internet. Even the phone reception was average but that’s the point – disconnect and reconnect!
MT GLORIOUS VILLAGE
Mt Glorious Village is only a tiny speck but you will find a couple of coffee shops that open for breakfast until mid afternoon. We had coffee and cake at Mount Glorious Cafe. If you want something more substantial you will need to head down the mountain to Samford which offers a variety of restaurants and take aways.

Ah, now this is my kind of thing. I must admit I prefer cabins or glamping to camping any day. I did a lot of tent camping as a kid and I’m certainly over it. Love a good cabin though 🙂
We have tent camped since our kids were little. We have a camper trailer at the moment but it won’t be long and we will have a caravan. The cabin was perfect and just what we needed.
I’m with Deborah, cabins are as close to camping as I get… glamping in that case…

I was relieved there were cabins involved. I hate camping and haven’t ever ‘really’ done it. But think I could cope with cabins as opposed to tents or caravans where one has to head outside to the toilet!
It looks quite lovely and so peaceful!
We do a lot of camping Deb but there is always a toilet close by! Most caravans these days have en-suites in them also. But as a treat this cabin was just divine!
