We think we’ve just placed our last order for caravanning accessories for inside and outside our van. However, we did feel that last month too! Some caravan accessories are must-haves whereas some caravans accessories are nice-to-have.

In this post, we look at the most popular accessories for caravans. Caravan and camping accessories that are practical, useful and best liked for lappers touring Australia and doing the big lap or laps.

Let’s jump in.

Caravanning Accessories For Outside

Table of Contents

caravan accessories for outside

Our first stop is the great outdoors. The space around your caravan is more than just a parking spot – it’s an extension of your living area, a spot for relaxation, socialising, and soaking up the beauty of Australia’s vast landscapes.

From essential outdoor furniture to awnings, BBQ equipment, and camping gear, we’ll introduce a range of accessories that will elevate your alfresco experiences while caravanning.

Whether you’re enjoying a beachside breakfast on the Sunshine Coast or gazing at the stars in the Outback, these accessories will ensure that you’re comfortable and well-equipped, turning the area outside your caravan into a versatile, inviting outdoor living space. Let’s explore!

1. Caravan Steps

portable caravan steps

Caravan steps are an essential piece of equipment for any home on wheels. These humble accessories might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of caravan life, but they add a significant layer of safety and convenience to your travels.

There are various types of caravan steps available in the market, ranging from simple, single-step models to larger, double or triple-step systems.

When selecting your caravan steps, it’s essential to consider factors such as their weight capacity, the stability they offer, and whether they have non-slip surfaces to cater for wet weather or dewy mornings.

Portability is also a key consideration. Foldable or lightweight steps are ideal for caravanning, as they are easy to store when on the move. Some steps also come with additional features like handrails for added safety or LED lights for visibility at night.

When it comes to material, you’ll typically find caravan steps made from aluminium, steel, or plastic. Aluminium and steel steps tend to be sturdy and durable, although they might be heavier. Plastic steps, on the other hand, are generally lighter and more portable, but you’ll need to ensure they’re sturdy and reliable enough to handle regular use and exposure to the elements.

2. Caravan Spare Wheel Covers

caravan spare wheel cover and bin storage

Caravan Spare Wheel Covers are designed to protect your spare tyre from the elements.

Spare wheel covers shield your tyre from harmful UV rays, which can cause the rubber to degrade over time, leading to cracks and weakening of the tyre. They also offer protection against dirt, dust, and water, which can cause corrosion on the metal parts of the wheel.

In addition to the practical benefits, caravan spare wheel covers also add an aesthetic touch to your home on wheels. They come in a variety of styles, colours, and designs, from plain and utilitarian to colourful or custom designs featuring images or text. You can choose one that fits your personal taste and makes your caravan stand out.

Most covers are made from durable materials such as vinyl or heavy-duty canvas, designed to withstand harsh weather conditions. They typically come with an elastic cord or a drawstring for easy installation and removal. Some, like this Navigator one, even have a handy bag attached that you can use for rubbish or for keeping your hoses in for easy access when needed.

3. Caravan Hitch

DO35 caravan hitch

A caravan hitch is typically mounted on the tow vehicle’s rear. It’s made to accommodate the caravan‘s towbar, and this connection lets you maneuver your caravan, steer it around bends, and brake safely.

Several caravan hitches are available, with the most common being the ball and coupler hitch. In this setup, the tow vehicle has a ball-shaped protrusion, and the caravan has a matching socket. The socket fits onto the ball, creating a secure connection that allows necessary movement.

The Cruisemaster DO35 Hitch and DO45 hitch have quickly become the industry standard for new caravans in Australia.

They have shown that full articulation is not only a huge safety feature but also makes it simple to use, hitch up, and hit the road. Both the DO35 and DO45 come with a caravan tow hitch cover. We have the DO35 Cruisemaster hitch on our Urban Caravan and find it easy to use.

When choosing a caravan hitch, you need to consider several factors, including your caravan‘s weight, the tow vehicle’s towing capacity and the type of driving you’ll be doing. You may also need to look at additional components like weight distribution systems or sway control devices for a safer and more comfortable towing experience.

4. Caravan Hoses

water hose for caravan

There are a few different types of caravan hoses you will need as your basic caravan kit. Water hoses and sullage hoses.

The water hose you use for filling your caravan‘s water storage tanks differs from the standard garden hose. A food-grade water hose is highly recommended. You don’t want tainted water from a plastic garden hose!

The Aussie company Flat Out International have solved the problem of water hoses, storage and cords. They have reels specially made for their flat hoses and now carry a great range of multi-reels too.

They also solve the sullage hose storage problem too, together with extension cord storage and management. You can check out their products here.

5. Caravan Hose Bag

caravan hose storage ideas

You’ll most likely carry up to three hoses for your caravan: a food-grade water hose, an all-purpose water hose, and a sullage hose.

Caravan hose bags are a must-have accessory to keep your hose pipes in order and neat and tidy in your tunnel boot or storage unit outside your van.

We have these hose storage bags for our hoses and keep them in our tunnel boot.

6. Caravan Awning Mats

Awning mat for caravan

There are several different types of awning mats for caravans. General all-purpose awning mats run the entire length of your caravan awning. Plus, there are mats to wipe your feet on to keep the dirt and dust out before you head into your van.

We have the cgear mat shown in the pic on the left. We chose this particular caravan mat as it allows the dust sand, and dirt to fall through. Plus, it won’t kill the grass underneath (should you be lucky enough to have some!) and is favoured by caravan parks.

Several companies now make various mats for your permanent caravan steps, internal caravan steps and portable caravan steps. One of the best-known caravan mats is from Muk Mats.

7. Caravan Jockey Stand

Jockey wheel stand

What I think a jockey stand is a pad to stabilise a jockey wheel like this one but what it actually is, is different.

Apparently, a jockey stand is used when a wheel isn’t required like this one. It can also be used as an extra stabiliser or leveller when your van is on uneven ground.

8. Caravan Awning Privacy Screens

Caravan privacy screen caravan awning

Privacy screens for caravans also act as a screen to keep harmful UV rays out and a wind break. They are particularly useful when you are parked in a busy caravan park and need extra privacy from nosey neighbours.

There are several brands and types of caravan awning privacy screens including

Coast to Coast Caravan Privacy Screens – these are the brand of privacy screens we use with our awning.

Camec Privacy Screen

Camprite privacy screen – we have both the awning and the end screens from Camprite.

Companion privacy screen

If you are looking for a waterproof caravan privacy screen, our research shows that privacy screens are generally made from heavy-duty shade cloth. For a waterproof solution, you may have to look for an annex for your caravan.

9. Caravan Power Lead

Caravan power lead

Before starting your caravan adventure and while stationed at caravan parks, you must equip yourself with a caravan power cord. A caravan power lead enables you to connect your caravan to your home’s electricity supply or the provided power sources at caravan parks.

Rather than a typical 10A (10 Amp) extension cord that you might use around your home, your caravan requires a robust 15A (15 Amp) heavy-duty extension cord. Why the difference? Your standard power cords have a specific current limit they’re designed to handle. A 10A-rated cord, when used for your caravan, would have to work double-duty, creating a risk of overheating and potentially causing a house fire. Such instances have unfortunately occurred before.

Your caravan will power various appliances and accessories, each with its charging requirements. Therefore, using a 15A extension cord isn’t just about practicality but also safety. It’s a small expense to provide peace of mind, knowing you’re effectively safeguarding your home and caravan investment. It’s a crucial step in preparing for your caravan journey.

10. Caravan Power Adaptor

Caravan power adapter

An accessory often found in the toolkit of many Lappers is a 15amp to 10amp adaptor for caravans. This device is a legal and safe way to connect your caravan to your home’s or caravan park’s main power.

Several adaptors are available in the market, but the Ampfibian model is the preferred 15amp to 10amp adaptor among caravanners. The Ampfibian offers a range of advantageous features:

  1. Waterproof: Its design ensures safe usage even in damp conditions, providing extra protection against the elements.
  2. Security Feature: It comes with a padlock point, enabling you to secure it and deter theft or tampering.
  3. Mini Circuit Breaker: This vital feature guards the PowerPoint and cords against overheating, further enhancing safety and preserving your equipment’s lifespan.
  4. Residual Current Detector: This element protects users from potential electrocution, making it a safety-critical addition to your caravan setup.

The Ampfibian 15amp to 10amp adaptor provides a seamless and secure solution to power up your caravan, enhancing safety and delivering peace of mind.

11. Caravan Rear Bumper Jerry Cans

1

Carrying Rear Bumper Jerry Cans on your caravan can be an essential part of your travel preparations, especially when embarking on long, remote journeys across the vast landscapes of Australia.

Here’s why they’re so important:

  1. Fuel Supply: Australia’s Outback is known for its remote and sometimes harsh environment, with significant distances between fuel stations. A jerry can allow you to carry extra fuel, acting as a backup supply in case you run out in these isolated areas. This extra fuel can differentiate between getting stranded and safely reaching your destination.
  2. Water Storage: Jerry cans are also helpful for storing extra water, especially for trips in dry, arid regions. An additional water supply can be crucial for drinking, cooking, cleaning, or emergencies where your onboard water system might run low or fail.
  3. Practicality and Space-Saving: Rear bumper jerry cans are practical as they attach securely to the outside of your caravan, freeing up valuable internal storage space. They are sturdy, easy to access, and don’t intrude on your living area.
  4. Safety: Jerry cans are designed with safety in mind. They’re typically made from high-quality, durable materials and are designed to prevent leaks or spills, even on rough roads.
  5. Regulations and Environmental Responsibility: Some areas have strict rules about carrying extra fuel or water designed to protect the environment. Using approved jerry cans can ensure you meet these regulations and responsibly enjoy Australia’s beautiful natural landscapes.

12. Caravan Breakaway Cable

breakaway cable on a caravan

A caravan breakaway cable is a crucial safety feature every caravan should have. This small, often overlooked component can play a vital role in preventing accidents and ensuring safety for you and other road users. We have one fitted to our caravan.

The primary purpose of a breakaway cable is to activate your caravan‘s brakes automatically if it becomes disconnected from the tow vehicle while in motion. Imagine driving along a highway and, due to a hitch failure, your caravan detaches from your car. Without a breakaway cable, the runaway caravan could cause significant damage, accidents, or even loss of life.

However, if your caravan is equipped with a breakaway cable, it will immediately engage the caravan‘s braking system the moment it detaches. This function brings the detached caravan to a safe and controlled stop, significantly reducing the potential for damage and danger.

To work correctly, the breakaway cable must be appropriately attached between the caravan and the tow vehicle. It should be short enough to activate the brakes before the safety chain reaches its limit, but not so short that it restricts normal movement of the caravan and tow vehicle. It’s also important to check the breakaway cable regularly to ensure it’s in good condition and functioning correctly.

13. Caravan Porch Awnings

caravan bbq porch awning

We didn’t expect to consider a porch awning for our caravan. However, with a Dometic slide-out kitchen, we soon worked out that if it rains the kitchen (and we) gets wet. Or that we have to stand in full sun to use the outside kitchen. It’s not much fun up north in the tropics.

We use a porch and put it up if we are staying for four days or more. It makes a difference when it rains and if the sun sets from that direction.

You can buy standard off-the-shelf caravan BBQ awnings or you can have one made to suit your van and set up. They generally span from the edge of your existing awning to out past the end of your caravan, covering the tunnel boot area.

Attach it to your Anti Flap Kit to make the porch awning waterproof. Naturally, the roof has to be made from vinyl to keep the rain out.

14. Caravan Anti Flap Kit

Caravan awning anti-flap kit

A Caravan Anti Flap Kit is an invaluable accessory that enhances your outdoor living space by providing stability and support to your caravan‘s awning. It addresses two common issues that caravan owners face when using awnings: flapping caused by the wind and the potential for damage that comes with it.

Here’s why you would want to use an Anti Flap Kit for your caravan:

  1. Reduce Flapping: As the name suggests, an Anti Flap Kit is designed to reduce flapping of the awning due to wind. Flapping not only creates noise, which can be disruptive, especially at night, but constant flapping can also damage the awning fabric over time.
  2. Prevent Damage: An Anti Flap Kit reduces the strain on the awning and its supporting structures by keeping the awning taut and secure. This prolonged stability helps prevent tears, fraying, or other damage that can result from constant movement, thereby extending the lifespan of your awning.
  3. Add-ons: Anti-flap kits also offer the possibility to attach walls to the awning, transforming your outdoor space into an enclosed annexe. This expanded living area can provide additional privacy, protection from the elements, and space for sleeping or storage.
  4. Peace of Mind: Knowing that your awning is secure provides peace of mind, especially when you’re away from your caravan or asleep. It also means you can spend less time worrying about your awning and more time enjoying your adventure.

An Anti Flap Kit for your caravan awning is a simple yet effective tool that can significantly enhance your caravanning experience. It provides stability to your awning, reduces maintenance, allows for convenient add-ons, and gives you the confidence to fully enjoy your outdoor space, regardless of the weather.

15. Caravan Step Ladder

caravan step ladder

If you are vertically challenged like me, then a step ladder for your caravan will come in very handy. We have a collapsible step to use inside (yes, sometimes I can’t reach into the overhead cupboards!) and an aluminium step ladder for use outside the can.

Luckily we had one with us when we had a running repair to do when our Dometic window blew out (a known fault with our particular batch of windows) when we were on the road.

When it comes time to wash the solar panels down to increase the battery input, having a step ladder is a must-have. We bought our step ladder (shown in the pic) from Bunnings.

16. Caravan Awning Tie-Down Straps And Pegs

Ezy Anchor

If you’ve ever been swinging off your awning in the middle of the night (we have!) because a mini cyclone blew through your camp, no doubt you’d be wishing you used some tie-down straps on your caravan awning.

This essential bit of kit probably won’t save your awning in a full-blown cyclone, however, it will give you peace of mind when you go out for the day that your awning will still be attached when you return to camp.

You’ll also need pegs to tie your straps down and hold them securely on the ground. Several companies are making ground pegs now, pegs for the sand and hard ground.

We have the Ezy Anchor caravan starter kit, which includes pegs for hard gravelly dirt or sand, guy ropes, tools and a handy bag to keep them all in one place.

17. Caravan Clothesline

Clothes line for caravan

If you have an onboard washing machine, you’ll require a suitable place to air-dry your laundry.

Various solutions are available, from awning track lines to compact versions of the classic Hills Hoist. However, the latter style tends to be the favourite among caravan users due to its convenience. These miniature rotary clotheslines are not only lightweight, but they also fold down swiftly, making them easy to store and a minimal space occupier.

There are plenty of other types of clotheslines for caravans. They range from Expanda lines, and wire lines that thread through and permanently attach to your awning and over the door hangers. You can see the range here. There are even pegless clotheslines. We have used them and they are great.

Pegs are an equally essential accessory for your portable drying setup. I recommend stainless steel pegs, having used them for over two years when living on the coast. They don’t rust or break!

Their appeal lies in their ease of use, ability to hold clothes on the line securely, and rust resistance. Moreover, these pegs boast longevity, lasting you a lifetime and saving you from repetitive peg purchases. They’re a modest investment that pays off in durability and practicality!

18. Pegless Clothesline

Another way to dry your clothes is using the pegless clothesline. They are quick and easy to use, and no pegs are needed. If you wanted to travel completely pegless you could use the pegless line along with the Allsmalls below.

19. Allsmalls Clothesline

As the name suggests, you can use this nifty little mini hanger for your smalls. Undies, bras, togs, hats and socks and jocks.

You can also use them inside your wardrobes if you prefer to hang your skirts and dresses. Simply install the Allsmalls and hang your clothes hanger in the Allsmall.

Keep your camp tidy and hang your caps and togs outside rather than moving them from one chair or table to another.

20. Camping Tables

best camping chair

A robust camping table stands as a cornerstone of any camping essentials list. This versatile piece can serve numerous purposes, from providing a sunny spot for afternoon reading to hosting lively family card games.

A camping table, mainly offers an ideal setting for families to gather around for meals amidst the stunning backdrop of the great outdoors. It is pivotal in facilitating relaxation, creating fun, and crafting memories destined to be cherished forever.

Designed with a generous surface area yet an easy-to-stow structure, camping tables are the perfect companion for camping and caravanning adventures. They balance practicality and leisure, making them an indispensable part of your outdoor experience.

There are many camping tables you can choose from, always bear in mind the weight factor when choosing your perfect camping table. The largest ranges of camp tables are from Anaconda, BCF and Outback Equipment.

21. Camping Chairs

Stratus Outdoor Everyday Chair

As you prepare to bask in the sunshine and embark on your expansive camping journey or ‘big lap,’ it’s crucial to equip yourself with the appropriate gear.

Often overlooked, camping chairs play a vital role not just as cozy spots for relaxation during park-ups, but also as portable comforts for day trips and beach excursions.

22. BBQ For Caravanning And Camping

bbq for caravanning

Installing a BBQ in the tunnel boot of your caravan can significantly enhance your caravanning experience by providing a handy way to enjoy outdoor meals. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to walk you through the process:

  1. Planning: Start by assessing the space in your caravan‘s tunnel boot. All caravan tunnel boots are not created equally; they differ in size. Measuring the dimensions accurately is essential to ensure the BBQ unit will fit comfortably. Consider the placement of gas lines, ventilation, and accessibility.
  2. Selecting the Right BBQ: Choose a BBQ that suits your needs and fits within the designated space in the tunnel boot. A variety of compact, caravan-friendly BBQ models are available on the market. These models are designed to be space-efficient, durable, and portable, perfect for installation in the tunnel boot. Without getting into a campfire discussion, the most common BBQs installed in the tunnel boot (in no particular order) are the Sizzler Deluxe BBQ  Ziggy by Ziegler and Brown and Baby Q Webber BBQ. We have the Sizzler Deluxe BBQ in our tunnel boot.
  3. Preparation: Once you’ve chosen your BBQ, prepare the tunnel boot. This might include cleaning the area, removing any unnecessary items, and possibly adding insulation or heat shields if required.
  4. Installation: Depending on the type of BBQ, you may need a mounting kit or brackets to secure it. The BBQ must be firmly attached to avoid movement during transit.
  5. Gas Connection: If your BBQ is gas-powered, establish a safe connection to your caravan‘s gas supply. This might involve running a new gas line or fitting a connector to an existing line. It’s highly recommended that a certified gas technician perform this step to ensure safety and compliance with government regulations.
  6. Ventilation: Make sure your BBQ has sufficient ventilation for safe operation. Check the manufacturer’s guidelines for any specific ventilation requirements.
  7. Final Checks: Once everything is installed, do a final check. Ensure the BBQ is secure, the gas connection is tight and leak-free, and the BBQ operates correctly. It’s also good to check that the BBQ can be easily accessed and removed for cleaning and maintenance.

Installing a BBQ in your caravan‘s tunnel boot can be a rewarding DIY project. However, always prioritise safety, especially when dealing with gas connections. Consult with a professional to ensure a safe and successful installation when in doubt. Once installed, you’ll be ready to enjoy countless BBQ meals.

23. BBQ Arm

bbq arm for caravanning

If you are like us and your tunnel boot is in use already then a great alternative is a BBQ arm.

This handy bit of kit mounts to your caravan‘s bumper bar or draw bar and swings in and out to use and store it away. There are all sorts of mounting bits and pieces together with accessories.

Now, you don’t have to leave the BBQ behind or have it taking up valuable space on your table.

24. Hose Connections and Tap Fittings

As taps aren’t all standard across Australia you will need various tap fittings and hose connections. Maybe even one or two of the most popular fittings too, for when you drive off without them!

It’s a common complaint we hear about on the road – the number of tap fittings and hose connections people go through!

25. Inline Water Filters

BEST inline water filter

Carrying and using an inline water filter while caravanning around Australia is highly recommended for several key reasons:

  1. Water Quality Varies: Water quality can significantly differ from location to location across Australia. Some areas, particularly in remote or rural regions, might have water that contains high mineral content, sediment, or other impurities. An inline water filter helps remove these contaminants, ensuring the water you consume or use in your caravan is safe and clean.
  2. Health Protection: Inline water filters not only improve the taste and odour of water, but they also eliminate harmful substances such as bacteria, viruses, and harmful chemicals. This is crucial in protecting your health, especially when travelling where water quality is questionable.
  3. Protecting Your Plumbing System: Sediments and minerals in the water can damage your caravan‘s plumbing system over time. They can cause blockages, corrosion, or buildup in the pipes, impacting the functionality of your water system. Using a water filter can help prolong the life of your caravan‘s plumbing by preventing these damaging particles from entering the system.
  4. Cost-Efficiency: By using an inline water filter, you can safely use tap water from various sources, reducing your need to consistently purchase bottled water, which can be expensive and environmentally unfriendly due to plastic waste.

An inline water filter is a necessary piece of equipment when caravanning around Australia. It ensures you have a consistent supply of clean, safe water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning, no matter where your travels take you. It protects your health, and your caravan‘s plumbing, and is an overall cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for water consumption.

26. Water Bladder

water bladder

Carrying a water bladder while caravanning around Australia is a wise decision for several key reasons:

  1. Additional Water Storage: Water bladders are a fantastic way to increase your water storage capacity without needing bulky or hard-sided containers. This can be particularly useful for longer journeys, travelling in remote areas, or camping off-grid where water sources may be scarce.
  2. Space Efficiency: Water bladders can be emptied and compacted when not in use, saving precious space in your car or caravan. This is a significant advantage over rigid containers, which take up the same amount of space regardless of how much water they hold.
  3. Versatility: Water bladders can be used in a variety of situations. You could use one to store extra drinking water, to hold greywater, or even to carry non-potable water for things like washing dishes or flushing the toilet.
  4. Emergency Preparedness: In case of emergencies, having a water bladder allows you to store additional water. This could prove vital in situations where access to reliable water sources becomes unexpectedly limited.
  5. Eco-Friendly: Reusable water bladders help reduce the reliance on single-use plastic bottles, making them a more environmentally friendly choice.
  6. Weight Distribution: When filled, a water bladder can be placed strategically in your vehicle or caravan to help with weight distribution, which can be particularly useful in off-road conditions.

Carrying a water bladder while caravanning around Australia is an excellent idea. It provides you with an additional, flexible water storage option that can adapt to your needs, ensure you’re prepared for emergencies, extending your time off-grid and help you travel in a more environmentally friendly way.

27. Caravan Covers

Caravan Cover

Even tho the All Around Oz website focuses on planning a lap of Australia and travelling around Australia full-time, we still feel the need to mention caravan covers in this post. Caravanners who have finished their big lap or are simply looking for the best caravan cover for when their caravan is stored.

Investing in a caravan cover is a smart move for anyone looking to prolong the lifespan of their caravan and maintain its pristine condition. Here are several reasons why having a caravan cover is beneficial:

  1. Protection from the Elements: A caravan cover safeguards your vehicle from harsh weather conditions. Sun, rain, snow, wind, and even coastal salt air can cause significant wear and tear over time. A good cover protects against these elements, helping to prevent rust, faded paintwork, and water damage.
  2. Prevention of Damage: Beyond weather, covers can also protect your caravan from scratches, dents, or damage from falling objects like tree branches. They can also deter birds and other wildlife, which can cause unexpected damage to your caravan.
  3. Reducing Maintenance: A covered caravan stays cleaner for longer, reducing the time and effort required for washing and waxing. It keeps the dust, leaves, and other debris off your caravan, making maintenance chores less frequent and less laborious.
  4. Interior Protection: UV rays can cause significant damage to the interior of your caravan, leading to fading or cracking of upholstery and other surfaces. A caravan cover can help to block these rays, preserving the condition of your interior.
  5. Resale Value: Protecting your caravan with a cover can help maintain its resale value. A caravan that has been well cared for and protected from damage and weathering is likely to fetch a higher price when you decide to sell.
  6. Security: While not its primary function, a cover can also provide a degree of security, making your caravan less noticeable to potential thieves.

A caravan cover is a cost-effective and practical way to provide an extra layer of protection for your caravan. It not only helps preserve your investment but also reduces the time and effort needed for cleaning and maintenance.

Those types of caravanning equipment won’t be featured in this post as it is purely a personal preference. Although I know if you are a self-confessed coffee snob then your machine is classed as a must!

One of the most frustrating discussions in Facebook groups is what to do with the rubbish inside a caravan. Do you hand a bag of a door, get bins built in or will a benchtop bin be sufficient?

While I don’t have the ultimate one-size fit all answer here are a few suggestions that have been tried and tested on the road.

Navigator has a couple of different bin options in their range of caravanning accessories. Click here to view the bin options.

Caravan Cookware

Just because you are on the road caravanning and camping, it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice good cookware in your caravan kitchen. The pots and pans you use in your home kitchen will certainly be good enough. However, if you are in the market for a few more pots and pans, here are a few suggestions.

You won’t need to take a full set of cookware with you. Just a small and large frypan, a small and large pot and a camp oven. Of course, this will depend on your situation and if you are travelling with kids or not.

32. Solidtecknics Cookware

Solidteknics cookware

Solidteknics, an Australian cookware brand, has rapidly become a household name among camping and caravanning enthusiasts. Their high-quality, multi-century durable cookware offers a fantastic return on investment despite the initial high cost, and here’s why:

Firstly, Solidteknics cookware is known for its seamless, one-piece construction. Unlike traditional pots and pans, which have handles attached to screws or rivets, these items are made from a single piece of material. This construction method provides superior durability, meaning the cookware is less likely to fail over time, especially under the often rugged conditions of camping and caravanning.

Secondly, they are made with high-performance, non-toxic materials, like wrought iron and stainless steel, ensuring the longevity and health safety of the cookware. For instance, their wrought iron pans are a great alternative to non-stick pans, as they develop a natural non-stick seasoning over time without the risk of toxic fumes or particles.

Moreover, Solidteknics cookware is versatile. Many of their pots and pans are designed to be multi-functional – they work equally well on the stove, in the oven, or over a camp fire, making them perfect for all cooking conditions you’ll encounter while caravanning or camping.

Lastly, by choosing Solidteknics, you support an Australian company that prides itself on sustainable manufacturing practices. All of their cookware is made in Australia from Australian materials, and they’re committed to reducing their environmental footprint.

So, while the upfront cost of Solidteknics cookware may be higher than other brands, the exceptional durability, versatility, safety, and ethical manufacturing make it a worthwhile investment for campers or caravanners. With Solidteknics cookware, you’re not just buying cookware for your next camping trip; you’re investing in a piece built to last for generations.

35. Carframo Sirocco 12v Fans

Sirrocco fan

Remember when you read above that most Lappers chase the sun? Most, if not all, caravanners will have Sirrocco 12v fans in their vans.

The bare minimum in a van would be two fans, one on each side of the bed. If you have kids and bunk beds, then one in each bunk bed too. The Sirocco fans keep a space cool and help circulate cool air from the air conditioner should you turn it on.

Even though our van is less than a year old (at the time of writing) I would have had more fans installed if I had realised how effective these tiny fans are. I’d also have swapped out the white fans for the black fans. Black fans show less dust = less cleaning!

They are a definite must for caravanning. And a definite must-not leave home without them! Click here for the best price for Sirocco fans.

36. Caravan Levelling Device

Levelling blocks and wheel chocks for caravan

As much as we might all love to have airbags to level our caravans, the reality is there are still thousands of caravans on the road and in production that don’t have airbags.

Caravan levelling devices such as chocks, ramps and levellers are invaluable tools for ensuring your caravan is perfectly level when you set up camp. An uneven caravan is more than just an inconvenience – it can cause issues with the operation of your appliances, such as your refrigerator. It can even lead to doors not closing correctly, water pooling in sinks and showers or discomfort while sleeping.

Furthermore, stability issues may arise, making your caravan feel unsteady. A levelling device quickly solves these problems, providing a stable, level base no matter how uneven the ground.

Easy to use and quick to set up, caravan levelling devices can save you time, prevent potential damage, and add to your overall comfort, making them an essential accessory for your caravan. Click here for more information on caravan levellers.

37. Map Of Australia

map of Australia sticker map

Tracking your Big Lap around Australia is a significant part of the journey, creating lasting memories and a visual representation of the adventure. One fantastic way to do this is with a map of Australia sticker. This map lets you mark the regions, cities, and specific points of interest you’ve visited along your journey.

The map is designed to adhere inside or outside of your caravan, we have one outside in one of our picnic tables. As you travel, you can mark the places you’ve explored and the roads you’ve taken. This creates a vibrant, personalised map that grows and changes as you travel around the country.

Not only does it serve as a fun activity and conversation starter at campgrounds, but it also becomes a beautiful keepsake of your travels. You’ll be able to look back at all the places you’ve been, stirring up fond memories of your adventures.

Moreover, these maps are typically weather-resistant and designed to withstand the elements, ensuring they remain a vibrant memento of your journey for years. So, whether you’re heading off on your first Big Lap or a seasoned caravanner, a map of Australia is a unique, interactive way to document your journey. Click here for your map of Australia.

38. Caravan Linen

best caravan mattress toppers

When decking out your caravan, it’s crucial to find a balance between comfort and practicality. Opt for pillows, sheets, and bath towels that are comfortable yet lightweight to avoid filling valuable storage space with bulky items.

Remember to include extra items that are smaller in size, like lightweight blankets, tea towels, and hand towels. Various bedding stores such as  AdairsPillow TalkBed Bath N Table and even Myer offer a wide range of suitable options for your caravan‘s bedding needs.

Keep an eye on online sales—you might snag a fantastic deal, just like I landed on a new Doona cover from Adairs at a whopping 80% discount! After months of searching, I loved finding the perfect fit and colour online with a huge discount.

Additionally, consider adding a caravan mattress protector and a caravan mattress topper to your list. These bedding items not only enhance comfort but also help protect your mattress, extending its lifespan and ensuring a good night’s sleep during your adventures.

39. Caravan Mattress Topper

Dreamer RV mattress topper

If you struggle with back, knee, or hip pain, a mattress topper can be a game-changer. Specifically designed for those who crave extra support and softness, it’s the perfect blend of comfort and care.

As someone with recurring back issues, I’ve always searched for the most comfortable bedding solutions. Initially, I bought a topper for our home bed, hoping to use it in our new caravan. However, the curved end of the caravan mattress made it incompatible, a realisation that came a little too late. That’s when I discovered the Dreamer RV Waterproof Mattress Protector and Mattress Topper. What’s more, they’re an Australian company, which we love to support being business owners ourselves.

Both the DreamerRV mattress topper and protector come with super-soft textures and generous elastic skirts, offering the feeling of luxury RV bedding without the hefty price tag.

Supporting local Australian businesses while enhancing your comfort on the road – it’s a win-win!

40. Caravan Mattress Protector

accessories for caravan mattress protector

A caravan mattress protector is an essential caravan accessory for every caravanner who values comfort and hygiene. Acting as a barrier between your sheets and the mattress, it serves multiple purposes.

Firstly, it protects your mattress from accidental spills, sweat, and dirt, ensuring it remains clean and increases lifespan.

Secondly, it adds an extra layer of comfort to your bed, enhancing your sleep quality.

Given the varying conditions you might encounter while travelling, from dusty roads to humid climates, a mattress protector can be a real game-changer. It’s machine-washable and has a curved shape to match your caravan mattress.

Investing in a caravan mattress protector is an effective way to enhance the durability of your mattress, increase your comfort, and maintain a clean and healthy sleeping environment.

41. Caravan Anti-Theft Accessories

WiTi Anti Theft caravan security devices

Safety on the road is at the forefront of most caravanners and campers. We are no different and when we were building our van we had a WiTi Anti Theft System and GPS tracker installed. We wanted peace of mind when we were away from the van for the day.

We plan to stay off-grid as much as we can which means our van will not have the protection of friendly caravan park neighbours keeping an eye out for us. With the crime rate escalating particularly with caravan theft it makes sense to protect your investment. Read our post about preventing theft on the road here.

42. Caravan First Aid Kit

First aid kit for camping

Embarking on a caravanning and camping adventure in Australia necessitates packing a first aid kit. This crucial tool aids in managing minor ailments and injuries, and in extreme cases, could be lifesaving. It’s advisable to keep one within reach in your caravan and another in your vehicle for quick access.

A comprehensive first aid kit typically includes bandages, scissors, pain relief medications, antiseptic cream, and insect repellent. Ensuring your kit is well-stocked and current is paramount, equipping you to handle any unexpected situations.

When travelling with children, it’s critical to have provisions for common injuries such as cuts, scrapes, insect bites, and burn and blister treatment supplies.

The presence of a first aid kit can enhance the safety of your journey, alleviating stress and potential health risks. So remember to pack this vital tool before starting your adventure!

Also, consider utilising one of your first aid kits as a go-to for your backpack during hiking trips. We love the practical design of this kit that includes separate, problem-specific bags – an excellent organisation solution for outdoor adventures.

43. Fire Extinguisher

fire extinguisher

Safety is always a top priority when you’re on the road with your caravan. One essential piece of safety equipment to carry is a fire extinguisher. Fires can occur unexpectedly and spread rapidly, especially in the confined space of a caravan. Carrying a fire extinguisher ensures you’re prepared to respond quickly to such emergencies.

Cooking equipment, electrical appliances, flammable materials, and even the vehicle’s engine can start a fire. (Read about our car fire here). A fire extinguisher onboard allows you to put out small fires before they escalate into larger, more dangerous situations.

Moreover, in some regions, it’s not only a safety recommendation but also a legal requirement to have a working fire extinguisher in your caravan. You should check the regulations for the areas you plan to travel through to ensure compliance.

However, remember that having a fire extinguisher is only part of the solution. You should also know how to use it correctly. Take the time to familiarise yourself with the operating instructions.

44. Fire Blanket

Fire blanket for camping

While we all hope never to use one, having a fire blanket on hand is a wise precautionary measure worth the modest cost.

Fires can quickly spiral out of control due to the high combustibility of cooking oils and fats. Disturbingly, these can occur on any stove, including those in your caravan or slide-out kitchen.

Keeping a fire blanket nearby for emergencies is a prudent strategy. This fibreglass blanket, designed to be fire-resistant, can quickly smother any flames. It comes equipped with a quick-release casing, allowing you to deploy it swiftly in times of need.

45. Caravan Fire Alarm

caravan fire alarm

Fitting your caravan with a fire alarm is a simple yet critical measure to enhance safety during your adventures. A fire alarm is essential in early fire detection, avoiding potential damage and danger. Like any living space, a caravan contains flammable materials and various ignition sources, so a fire alarm becomes even more critical.

One of the main advantages of a fire alarm is its ability to alert you of a fire at its earliest stage, even when you’re asleep. This early warning provides precious extra time for you and your loved ones to escape safely and may allow for quicker fire suppression, preventing the spread of the fire.

Additionally, modern fire alarms are often equipped with features such as carbon monoxide detection. Carbon monoxide is a silent, odourless, but deadly gas that various appliances can release within a caravan. An alarm that can detect carbon monoxide offers a critical line of defence against this invisible threat.

In conclusion, investing in a reliable fire alarm for your caravan is indispensable to ensuring a safe and worry-free adventure. It’s not only a sensible precaution but, in many jurisdictions, a legal requirement. Regularly check your fire alarm’s operation and replace batteries to maintain this vital safety equipment.

46. Carbon Monoxide Alarm

carbon monoxide caravan alarm

A carbon monoxide (CO) alarm in your caravan is crucial for ensuring a safe and healthy environment. Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless, and tasteless gas that can be extremely dangerous, even fatal, at high levels. It’s produced when fuels such as gas, oil, coal, and wood don’t burn fully. Given that many caravans utilise these types of fuels for cooking and heating, the risk of CO build-up is a serious concern.

A carbon monoxide alarm is essential in detecting any rise in CO levels in your caravan before they reach a dangerous point. As you can’t see, smell or taste the gas without an alarm, you might not realise there’s a problem until it’s too late.

The symptoms of CO poisoning – including headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse, and loss of consciousness – can easily be mistaken for other illnesses like food poisoning or the flu. Therefore, having a carbon monoxide alarm guarantees that you’ll be warned if CO levels increase, allowing you to ventilate the caravan or move to safety.

Moreover, in some regions, installing a carbon monoxide alarm in your caravan is not just a safety recommendation but a legal requirement.

A carbon monoxide alarm is an indispensable safety tool for any caravan. It provides essential protection from an invisible danger, contributing to a safer caravanning experience.

Caravan Accessories For Power

47. 12v USB and USBC Charging Outlets

12v USB and USBC Charging Outlets

Embracing the convenience of having 12v USB and USB-C charging outlets in your caravan is a game-changer for modern-day caravanning. Given our increasing reliance on digital devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, cameras, and GPS devices, readily available and efficient means of charging these gadgets are no longer a luxury but a necessity.

Firstly, 12v USB and USB-C charging outlets allow you to power your devices directly from the caravan‘s battery system without needing a mains power connection or an inverter to convert power. This is particularly useful when free camping or off the grid, ensuring your devices can stay charged even in remote areas.

USB-C outlets are becoming increasingly important as they provide faster charging rates and can handle more power than standard USB outlets. They’re particularly beneficial for charging larger devices, such as laptops or tablets, that require more power, enabling you to keep these devices operational for more extended periods.

Having multiple charging outlets also means you can charge several devices simultaneously. This can be a significant time-saver, especially for families or groups where multiple people need to charge their devices simultaneously.

Furthermore, USB and USB-C outlets are universal, meaning they can accommodate a wide range of devices without needing different plug types. This can help simplify your setup and reduce the need for additional charging equipment.

In essence, having 12v USB and USB-C charging outlets in your caravan can enhance your travel experience by ensuring your devices are always ready to use, whether you’re capturing the stunning sunset with your camera, navigating your next journey with your GPS, or simply enjoying a movie on your tablet.

If you don’t want to install charging outlets in your caravan you could use a solar portable power station instead. You’d be able to charge smaller and larger 12v accessories.

48. Portable Solar Panel

Bluetti Solar panels

When building our van we had a separate Anderson plug installed for a portable solar panel. Even though we have 4 x 210w solar panels on the roof and 2 x 200ah lithium batteries.

We had the Ando plug installed for those not-so-nice days when the sun is hiding and the heavens open. Or we are parked up in a shaded area with not much sun available to charge the batteries.

Or for the days when we are off-grid with the air con cranked for an hour or two to cool the van down.

We have a few guides comparing portable solar blankets and flexi solar panels. Plus, we have a separate review of the Ecoflow 400W Solar Panel. The Ecoflow panel has been a game-changer for us when we free camp.

49. 12 VOLT SYSTEM

12v battery system

A 12v (volt) system is standard in caravans for several significant reasons related to practicality, safety, and compatibility with other devices.

  1. Practicality and Versatility: A 12v system is ideal for caravans because it can operate independently of a main power connection. This is particularly useful when camping off-grid, allowing you to power lights, charge devices, and run certain appliances. It enables a self-sufficient energy setup that makes caravanning more flexible and adaptable to different environments.
  2. Compatibility: Many appliances and devices designed for caravanning and camping use a 12v system, including lighting, refrigeration, water pumps, and charging ports. (Don’t bother with 12v hairdryers, though — they are useless!). This is partly due to the global standardization of 12v systems in vehicles and recreational vehicles, leading to a wide range of 12v appliances being available.
  3. Safety: Lower voltage systems like a 12v are generally safer compared to higher voltage systems, especially in an environment where moisture could be present, like in outdoor settings.
  4. Battery Charging: A caravan‘s 12v system can be recharged in several ways, including via the towing vehicle while you’re on the move, solar panels, or a mains power connection at a caravan park. This flexibility ensures you can maintain a power supply in various situations.
  5. Energy Efficiency: With the growth of LED lights and energy-efficient appliances that operate effectively on low voltage, a 12v system can provide all the power you need while conserving energy.

In essence, a 12v system in a caravan provides an efficient, safe, and flexible power solution that enhances the freedom and independence that comes with caravanning.

50. Caravan Inverter

enerdrive inverter

An inverter in a caravan is a valuable component that broadens the possibilities of what electrical appliances and devices you can use while caravanning, particularly when you’re camping off-grid or away from mains power. Here’s why:

  1. Conversion from DC to AC: The primary function of an inverter is to convert 12-volt direct current (DC) power from your caravan‘s battery into 240-volt alternating current (AC) power. This is the type of power you typically find in residential power outlets. Many common household appliances – like laptops, microwaves, or televisions – require AC power to operate.
  2. Off-Grid Capabilities: With an inverter, you can use these AC-dependent appliances even when you’re camping off the grid. This significantly enhances your self-sufficiency and convenience, letting you enjoy the comforts of home while in your caravan.
  3. Safety: Modern inverters also come with various safety features, such as automatic shutdown in case of an overload, protection from short circuits, and indicators for low battery.
  4. Efficiency: An inverter allows you to directly use the energy stored in your batteries without having to be hooked up to mains power. This can be particularly useful if you have solar panels installed on your caravan, as the energy they generate and store in your batteries can be utilized more efficiently.

However, it’s important to remember that using an inverter to power high-consumption appliances will drain your batteries faster. Therefore, managing your power consumption and having an understanding of your energy requirements is crucial when using an inverter.

We have a 3000w inverter in our van and a 2000w inverter in the back of our Patrol for when we are away from the van.

Having an inverter in your caravan (and rig) expands your power options and adds a level of convenience and flexibility to your caravanning experience.

Caravan Accessories For Your Rig

caravan accessories for 4x4

Although this is a post about caravanning accessories, some caravan accessories need to be attached to your rig so you can tow your caravan safely and efficiently.

51. Log Book

Caravan Camper Log Book

Some of the most engaged posts in our Facebook Group are about fuel consumption and general touring costs. When you have a dedicated log book for touring, all your information is in one place.

Of course, there are several apps that record your trip or if you love a good ole’ pen and paper then a log book will probably be more your style.

52. Reversing Camera

reversing camera for caravan

A reversing camera attached to the back of your caravan and wired through to your rig will help with reversing into tight spots and parking up in general.

The Safety Dave reversing camera is the most popular reversing camera. We have a Safety Dave, it came with the van and we had the wiring done when the tow bar went on.

Not only are reversing cameras great for parking up they are also useful to see what and who is following behind your caravan.

Apart from Safety Dave other brands of reversing cameras include Furrion reversing cameras, Axis reversing cameras and Coast to Coast caravan accessories now include a reversing camera.

53. Towing Mirrors

Clearview mirrors for Y62 Patrol

Towing mirrors are an indispensable and legally required accessory for caravan towing on Australian roads, offering a far superior vantage point compared to regular mirrors.

Offering a broader perspective, these mirrors are specifically designed to enhance visibility, reduce blind spots, and contribute to safer driving. This extended view makes manoeuvres like parking, reversing, and overtaking significantly easier.

Installation involves securing the towing mirrors to your existing mirror setup, which in turn provides a wider field of vision necessary for towing a caravan. Initially, we used these clip-on Milenco towing mirrors, however, we’ve upgraded to the permanently attached towing mirrors.

In addition, there’s a variety of after-market tow mirrors available. These are comprehensive replacements for your standard mirrors, crafted specifically for towing needs. Their design and functionality bring an added layer of safety and convenience to your caravanning adventures.

We have the Clearview Gen II Towing mirrors on our rig and they are a lot easier to use. Plus we don’t have to keep clipping them on and taking them off plus constantly adjusting them. With the Clearviews on it’s pull them out and go.

54. UHF Radio

best UHF radio for 4wd

Taking a UHF (Ultra High Frequency) radio along on your ‘big lap’ around Australia is an invaluable piece of kit that brings both convenience and safety to your caravanning journey. Here’s why:

  1. Communication: Whether you’re travelling in a convoy or solo, a UHF radio enables accessible communication with other caravanners, truckies, road users, or local authorities. It’s handy in areas with poor or no mobile coverage, ensuring you can reach out when needed.
  2. Road Safety: UHF radios alert you to road conditions ahead, shared by truckies or other road users. These may include warnings about hazards, traffic jams, or rugged terrain, allowing you to navigate safely and plan your route effectively.
  3. Emergency Situations: A UHF radio can be a lifesaver in case of a breakdown or emergency. You can send distress signals over emergency channels, which are often monitored by authorities or by other road users who could assist or alert the necessary services.
  4. Community Interaction: Engaging with the caravanning community becomes easier with a UHF radio. You can join in on discussions, ask for advice, share your experiences, or even just have a friendly chat. It’s a great way to feel connected while on the open road.
  5. Local Information: Often, local communities or park rangers broadcast important information over specific UHF channels. This can include details about weather conditions, fire bans, park closures, or local events that might affect your journey or stay.

GME are the industry leaders for UHF radios (at the time of writing) followed by Uniden and Oricom.

Having a UHF radio fitted in your rig for your big lap around Australia can greatly enhance your caravanning experience. Not only does it make communication easier, but it also contributes to a safer and more informed journey, letting you fully enjoy your epic adventure with peace of mind.

55. Car Fridge Freezer

best drawer fridge 12v car fridge Australia

Having a car fridge freezer on board can elevate your touring experience significantly. Here are some compelling benefits of carrying this handy appliance:

  1. Food Preservation: With a fridge freezer in your 4×4, you can keep perishable food fresh for longer, reducing waste and saving money. This is particularly beneficial when you’re in remote areas where grocery stores are scarce and can use it for extra fridge storage for your 12v upright caravan fridge.
  2. Flexible Meal Planning: A fridge freezer allows you to store a variety of ingredients, enabling you to prepare nutritious meals on the go. It also provides the luxury of keeping ready-to-eat meals or snacks for when you don’t feel like cooking.
  3. Chilled Beverages: There’s nothing like a cold beer or wine after a day of exploring in the Aussie heat. A car fridge freezer ensures access to chilled beverages, enhancing your comfort and enjoyment.
  4. Medication Storage: For those who need to keep medicines at a specific temperature, a car fridge freezer can be a lifesaver, making it safe and convenient to carry medications on your journey.
  5. Versatility: Many car fridge freezers come with dual-zone or multi-zone features. This means you can use one compartment as a fridge and another as a freezer simultaneously, offering you the flexibility to store a wider range of food and drinks.
  6. Efficiency: Modern car fridge freezers are designed to run efficiently on your vehicle’s 12V power system, and many models have excellent insulation to minimise power use. This means you can keep your food and drinks cold without overly taxing your vehicle’s battery.

In short, a car fridge freezer in your 4×4 can significantly enhance your ‘big lap’ adventure around Australia. It provides convenience, flexibility and enhances the overall quality of your journey.

56. Air Compressor

air compressors for 4x4

Driving around Australia in a 4×4 and a caravan is an incredible experience. Having an air compressor on board brings both convenience and utility to your journey. Here’s why it’s important:

  1. Tyre Inflation: This is the most common use for an air compressor in a 4×4. Whether you’re adjusting your tyre pressure for different terrains (lowering for sand or mud, increasing for highways), or re-inflating a flat tyre, having an air compressor readily available is invaluable. It saves you from the hassle of finding a service station, particularly in remote areas.
  2. Puncture Repair: In combination with a tyre repair kit, an air compressor can get you back on the road quickly in case of a puncture. This can be crucial when you’re travelling in remote areas where help isn’t easily accessible.
  3. Air Tools: If you carry air tools for vehicle maintenance or other tasks, a portable air compressor can power these devices. This broadens your tool options and capabilities on the road.
  4. Camping Gear: Air compressors can be used to inflate air mattresses, inflatable boats, or other camping gear, making them a versatile addition to your 4×4.
  5. Emergency Situations: In emergency situations, an air compressor can prove extremely useful. For instance, it can be used to clear a dusty engine air filter or even to re-seat a tyre that’s come off the rim.
  6. Efficiency and Speed: Modern portable air compressors are both fast and efficient. This means you spend less time maintaining your vehicle and more time enjoying your adventure.

Carrying an air compressor in your 4×4 is a wise decision and for peace of mind. It ensures you’re prepared for a range of situations and enhances your self-sufficiency on the road.

57. 4WD Drawer Systems

4x4 drawer system for Y62 Patrol

Organisation and space management are key to a smooth and enjoyable trip in a 4×4 and caravan. Having a drawer system installed in your 4×4 brings an unparalleled level of convenience and practicality. Here are several reasons why:

  1. Organisation: A drawer system helps keep your gear organised and easily found. Instead of rummaging through bags or boxes for specific items, you can pull out a drawer. This is particularly helpful for managing essentials like recovery gear, cooking equipment, food, clothes, tools, and emergency supplies.
  2. Space Efficiency: Drawer systems make the most of the available space in your vehicle. With a custom design, you can utilise every inch of the cargo area, helping you carry more gear tidily and efficiently.
  3. Safety: Having loose items in the back of your vehicle can be a safety hazard, particularly in sudden braking or a collision. A drawer system keeps your gear secure, preventing it from becoming a projectile.
  4. Protection: Drawer systems protect your gear from damage. They’re often made from durable materials that resist impact and weather conditions. Keep your equipment in drawers can prevent it from getting dirty or wet during your adventures.
  5. Accessibility: With a well-planned drawer system, frequently used items can be stored in easy-to-reach places. This means less time spent unpacking and more time enjoying your journey.
  6. Security: Many drawer systems come with lockable features, providing a safe place to store valuable items like electronics, cameras, or personal documents.

Installing a drawer system in the back of your 4×4 significantly enhances your travel experience. It simplifies organisation, increases storage efficiency, and ensures that your gear is safe, protected, and easy to access.

Some Lappers will argue that a 4wd drawer system isn’t necessary and some that they are necessary. Weight is generally the objection. However, you might find as we did the weight was about the same for us. We do have only two people in the car touring tho so we could lose the third row of seats and have a custom-made drawer system installed.

Rather than opting for a camping fridge and fridge slide, we chose a drawer fridge and for convenience and weight efficiency.

Caravan Accessories Misc

It’s a good idea to carry a few caravan parts with you in case you are remote with no access to any caravan spare parts. Caravan parts and accessories such as door handles, various nuts and bolts and maybe even a spare toilet cassette. I definitely recommend at least a lid for your cassette as there have been stories about losing them at dump points.

You can buy most caravan accessories online from various suppliers. We recommend Outback Equipment as they have great selection of caravan supplies, competitive pricing and excellent service.

It’s clear that the right gear can truly enhance your caravanning experience. These accessories are more than mere add-ons; they’re instrumental in making your journey comfortable, efficient, and ultimately, more enjoyable.

From providing safety and practicality, to making your caravan feel like a home away from home, they are indeed the unsung heroes of any successful caravan trip. As you embark on your adventures across Australia’s beautiful landscape, remember to equip your caravan with these handy accessories.

So, prepare well, stock up on your favourite caravan gear, and set off for a journey that promises countless memories and thrilling experiences. Happy caravanning!
