Expense Report, October 2020 – Month 9 on the Road

November 11, 2020 By Melissa Leave a Comment

One of the most common questions we get asked is how much does it cost to travel Australia? This is a very hard question to answer as it depends so much on how you like to travel and also how many people you are travelling with. So each month we share our income and expenses because if just one person reads it and says Wow…that will work for me then that has to be a good thing.

OCTOBER 2020

October has been a fairly quiet month for us. As you may know we are currently stopped for work in Narromine NSW. We are both working for a Grain Receival site. Brenden has been working most days getting the site set up and ready to go. I have worked a few days as well, mainly doing training. Read on to see our full income and expense report for the month.

EMU LOGIC

We have managed a couple of days out to look around the local area and on one of those days we visited Emu Logic. Emu Logic is a working emu farm tucked into the foothills of the Warrumbungle Mountains, just outside of the tiny village of Tooraweenah.

We did a tour of the farm and not only did we learn all about emus we got to feed them as well. They love salt bush and will eat it straight out of your hands. They are such funny, quirky birds. We highly recommend a visit to Emu Logic if you are in the area. It’s only a little over 45 minutes off the Newell Highway so easily doable as you pass through.

CAR TROUBLES

It doesn’t matter how well maintained your car is, things can and do happen. This month we had a fan belt come off. Apparently this is very uncommon in the BT50’s and may have been caused by the idler pulley coming loose. When the fan belt came off it cracked the front crank seal which then had to be replaced.

Fortunately, this happened as we were pulling into the local supermarket car park which just happened to be right next door to the Ford dealership. It could have been so much worse. We could have been in the middle of no where with the van on! These are the kind of things that are pretty much unavoidable no matter where you are!

ACCOMMODATION AND KILOMETRES

As we have been stopped for work, we have spent the entire month staying in the local caravan park. Our kilometres for the month have been negligible – just 1050. Saves on fuel!

INCOME AND EXPENSE REPORT

Our income is up a little bit this month, with Brenden working most days. I am also still on long service leave which I took at half pay.

TOTAL INCOME (all sources) $5,118.95

EXPENSES

Our total expenses for the month were $3,725.27

  • Car Repairs $718.49
  • Car Insurance $227.55
  • Fuel $105.58
  • Caravan Park $900.00
  • Food $679.93
  • Laundry $32.00
  • Alcohol $169.11
  • Eating Out $175.29
  • Health Insurance $252.85
  • Gifts $171.69
  • Caravan Accessories/Maintenance $126.78
  • Website $115.00
  • Mobile Phones $63.00
  • Tours $20.00

This means we added just over $1300.00 to our travel fund for next year.

We use an app called Andro Money to track all our expenses. It is very easy to use and only takes a couple of minutes each day to enter our spending. We have found it really helpful to see just what we are spending our money on. You can read our previous reports HERE.
