Wow – we can’t believe we have reached the end of month four on the road. We have spent the whole month at Dimboola in south-western Victoria where Brenden is currently working.
Even though he has been busy working we have taken off to explore the local area at every chance we have had.
MEETING NEW FRIENDS
Without a doubt the highlight of this month for me was finally meeting Stacey from Love Your Travels in person. We have been on-line friends for around five years and have often bounced ideas about our blogs and travel in general between us.
I headed over to her home town of Donald, checked out the Love Your Travels pop-up shop before having lunch and getting a guided tour around town.
EXPLORING THE LOCAL AREA
So far we have taken day trips though The Grampians, checked out lots more Silo Art, explored the Little Dessert National Park and also Mt Arapiles. The Wimmera Mallee region of Victoria has so much to offer visitors to the region and we have loved our time here.
Of course this was our first Christmas without our kids being with us. But thanks to modern technology we were able to ‘Facetime’ them and watch them open their presents. It really is a great way to keep in touch!
We kept our Christmas lunch simple – Roast Chicken and Vegies in the Weber. Later in the afternoon we had drinks and nibbles with friends who are also staying here in the Caravan Park at Dimboola.
All in all it was a very enjoyable day!
Our income was down quite a bit this month due to public holidays over the Christmas/New Year break.
Combined Income (all sources)
We have definitely had a better month with no unforeseen expenses. Total expenses – $4,023.84
- Caravan Repayment $1,213.17 (About 6 payments left – read Our Second Month on the Road to see why we are still paying the van off)
- Caravan park $740.00
- Groceries $596.59
- Laundry $40.00
- Fuel $217.87
- Car Insurance $159.24 (Ongoing expense)
- Health Insurance $252.85 (Ongoing expense)
- Chemist $31.30
- Website $254.48
- Alcohol $97.30
- Eating Out $140.80
- Gifts $120.84
- Phones $68.40 (Ongoing expense)
- Entertainment $52 (includes entry fee)
- Clothing $15.00
Even with less work this month and a few extra expenses for Christmas we have still been able to add over $900 to our savings. It looks like Brenden will have another month of work here before we need to start heading north. We will head back to the Gold Coast for two weeks to celebrate our daughters 21st, then back to Cowra to house-sit for a fortnight and then after that who knows!
All in all we are pretty happy with how we are going. Keeping track of what we are spending is definitely a great way to keep us accountable and for us to see where our money is going. It’s definitely a worthwhile exercise.
