We can’t quite believe that we have now spent three months on the road. In the last month we have also crossed a state border and we are now in Victoria for at least the next six or eight weeks.
COOLAMON TO NARRANDERA
After spending two weeks in Coolamon we decided to move to Narrandera as it would be much closer for Brenden to get to work at the silos at Grong Grong. A 15 kilometre drive instead of 40 kilometres!
We chose to stay at the Lake Talbot Tourist Park as it was closer to town for me if Brenden had the car. However, for the end of November the weather was cold and miserable most days so I didn’t venture out much.
After a couple of slow days at work – mainly due to the poor harvest in NSW, we were offered the opportunity to go to Dimboola in south-west Victoria for the remainder of the harvest season so that’s what we have done.
Dimboola is a great little town right in the heart of the Wimmera wheat belt. They have had a much better season than other parts of Australia and every silo around is busy. Unlike some of their NSW counterparts that didn’t even open this year.
We are set up in the Riverside Holiday Park which is right on the banks of the Wimmera River. At this stage we will most likely be here until the end of January which will give us the opportunity to keep topping up those funds.
The bonus is that we are right in the middle of the Silo Art Trail, so we are spending Brenden’s day off exploring the area.
Our income increased a little this month with longer hours for Brenden and a shift for me back at Woolworths to keep me ‘on the books’.
Combined Income (all sources)
This month was a big month again as we had rego on the BT50 due, another van repayment and also bought Christmas presents as well. Total Expenses – $6,289.22
- Caravan Repayment $1213.17 (Read Our Second Month on the Road to see why we are still paying the van off)
- Car Rego $965.00
- Caravan Park $906.00 (easier to stay in a park whilst Brenden is working)
- Groceries $661.27
- Fuel $479.76
- Caravan Accessories $466.94 (As I have mentioned before we are still getting our van set up the way we want it. This month we bought an anti-flap kit for the awning as the winds have been horrible and it’s cheap peace of mind)
- Gifts $398.90 (Christmas is coming)
- Health Insurance $252.85 (ongoing)
- Website $251
- Car Insurance $159.24 (ongoing)
- Alcohol $77.78
- Eating Out 213.70 (Mmmm….maybe need to cut out those bakery treats)
- Mobiles $68.40 (ongoing)
- Laundry $52.00
- Medication $65.60
- Misc $55.90
We are now pretty happy with the way the van is set up. So for now we can’t think of anything else that we need to add. Although our expenses have been quite high again this month we expect that figure to drop considerably next month.
We hope that by sharing our income and expenses, we can highlight that it is possible to find work on the road. We also want to highlight that extra expenses do pop up even when you think you have planned everything down to a ‘T’!
