On our recent visit to Rockhampton we didn’t really have a fixed idea of where to stay. Checking our trusty Camps Australia Wide book we saw Gracemere Caravan Park and decided that was us. And for those of you travelling with your ‘fur babies’ it’s pet friendly!
Gracemere Caravan Park is located about 7 kilometres from the Rockhampton CBD, in the outer suburb of Gracemere. Tucked in off the main road on the Old Capricorn Highway, it is in a very quiet spot with hardly any road noise.
Just up the road is a Woolworths supermarket, petrol station, bottle shop and pub which means you don’t have to go back into Rockhampton itself for supplies.
Gracemere is a large, spacious park with plenty of green grass and shady trees. It has decent sized sites, so you don’t feel like you are crammed in. There are both powered and un-powered sites available.
The amenities blocks are very much an older style but were spotlessly clean and the water was hot with good pressure which I always like. I often find that older amenity blocks have more showers and toilets and are also more roomy than their modern counterparts. So this was another plus for me.
There were also laundry facilities and plenty of clothes line space available.
There was a nice, tidy camp kitchen nearby that was equipped with a BBQ, tables and a television.
The best part of Gracemere, especially if you are travelling with kids was the gorgeous pool area. We had a site right next door so we had ‘water views’. It was a large pool area and had a covered shallow area as well as a good sized slide. This would be an awesome spot for the summer.
WHEN TO STAY
We stayed during part of the school holidays in September and the park wasn’t busy. No doubt during the Christmas school holiday period this might change.
We really did enjoy our stay at Gracemere. It was such a peaceful spot. Late afternoon we saw a small flock of Rainbow Lorikeet’s come in to play in the sprinkler.
The office staff that we dealt with were very friendly and even came out to show us which way to go to our site.
The grounds of the park were lovely and very well maintained. The grass was green and there was no rubbish to be seen anywhere.
Prices start at $27.00 for an un-powered site. To find out more or make an enquiry CLICK HERE.
