Top 5 Things To Do On A Gold Coast Long Weekend

August 25, 2016 By Melissa 2 Comments

The Gold Coast Show is on this coming weekend so Friday is a Public Holiday. Yay! A long weekend is perfect for getting away if you can. But if that’s not possible, here are my Top 5 Things To Do On A Gold Coast Long Weekend!

CHECK OUT THE MARKETS

There are a variety of markets held all over the Gold Coast every weekend. Try the Night Quarter markets at Helensvale on Friday or Saturday nights for food and entertainment. Farmers Markets abound all over the Coast on the weekend. You can find Farmers Markets at Helensvale and Palm Beach on Saturday and Bundall on Sundays. Other markets can be found at Marina Mirage, Nerang and Miami.

GO FOR A PICNIC

I can’t even begin to tell you how many places there are on the Gold Coast to go for a picnic. The list is literally endless. For us as a family we love Hinze Dam. There are covered picnic areas, BBQ’s, a kids play ground and plenty of grass to kick a footy around on.  If you want something a little more coastal try Burleigh Heads Foreshore Park, the Gold Coast Botanic Gardens or another of our favorites – Paradise Point.

GO BUSH WALKING

Once again we are spoilt for choice here on the Gold Coast. The Hinterland area is a spectacular location with rainforests, waterfalls and endless walking tracks. Whether you just want to walk for a couple of kilometres or go all out on an overnight hike you will find somewhere that is perfect for you. We love Binna Burra as there are a number of different length walking tracks there. Springbrook National Park is also fantastic. It has stunning views, a variety of trails and lots of water falls!

TAKE A DAY TRIP

One of the things we love about the Gold Coast is how there are so many other fantastic spots that are worthy of a day trip. Brisbane is a mere 45 minutes away and you can easily spend a day wandering around the Southbank Precinct. Head south and you have an abundance of coastal towns to drop into such as Brunswick Heads, Byron Bay or head inland a little to the villages of Mooball or Tumbulgum.

FIND A PUB

Is there any better way to spend a weekend than sitting in the beer garden of a small pub, enjoying a cold beer and listening to some great music? There are plenty of great pubs close to the Gold Coast. Try Harrigan’s Drift Inn – an Irish Pub at Jacob’s Well. Right on the water it really is a gorgeous spot. The Bearded Dragon at Tamborine is a great family friendly pub or for fantastic music try the Eagle Heights Mountain Resort Hotel at Mt Tamborine which has the best views of the Coast from it’s beer garden.

Great suggestions! I like doing a bit of a day trip now and again on the weekend which usually involves some bushwalking. We are very spoilt for choice here on the GC. 🙂
