I like to be prepared for any eventuality so no matter where we are going I always have a picnic bag packed and ready to go. You never know when you will find an awesome spot to stop and enjoy a picnic or a barbecue. It’s also a great way to break up a longer journey. Plus having your own food is much cheaper when travelling. Want to know What to Pack in a Picnic Bag? Then read on.

You never know when you are going to come across an awesome spot for a picnic like this one in the Girraween National Park.
Picnic bags come in all shapes and sizes and the one that I keep in the back of the BT50 is a flat rectangular cooler bag that was originally a gift bag with truck washing gear in it! It is the perfect size to fit in our Drifta drawers without taking up to much space. It lives in there permanently so I never have to go searching for it.
The contents of our picnic bag are pretty basic, but they are all that we need on most occasions.
4 plates
4 cups
cutlery (in a plastic container)
a sharp knife
salt and pepper
small chopping board
stubby holders
serviettes
a couple of rubbish bags
a table cloth – very handy to throw over grubby picnic tables
a tap key – it’s amazing how many taps there are with no handles to turn them on, often because people leave them running. You can buy a tap key like this at any hardware store and it really is one if the handiest items that we carry.
If I think that we might be going to have a BBQ somewhere I throw in tongs and a scraper.
Of course there are other things that you might deem essential, but I find that this lot is generally all I need. For more ideas on what to pack for a day out read Day Trip Essentials.
